Probate and Estate Administration

Most people are familiar with the term probate but the process often times is a mysterious concept.  Probate is the process whereby a decedent’s assets are transferred from the decedent to his or her designated devisees or heirs.  The timing of probate is very difficult because the personal representative appointed to administer the estate is often a close friend or relative.  At Curnalia Law, LLC, we can help explain the necessary steps of the probate process and provide as much support as necessary during the estate administration.  Our goal is to ease the burden during these difficult times.

Probate can be a difficult process, but compared to other states, Colorado is relatively inexpensive and efficient.  Some states, such as California and Florida, allow attorneys to charge a percentage of the decedent's estate as a fee for their services.  These fees are often much larger than the work put into the administration of the estate and exemplify the necessity for proper estate planning - especially if assets are located out-of-state.  In Colorado, the costs will typically be much lower than comparably sized estates in percentage-fee states.  We will be more than happy to discuss the probate process and any anticipated costs of administration.
